Indian institutions use TCAD extensively for research. No commercial Indian tool or service business of scale exists.
What Breaks, and Who Could Fix It
TCAD matters most where the device is novel (power, compound semiconductors, sensors) which is exactly where India’s SiC and GaN ambitions sit.
The customer base is small and largely institutional. This is a specialist consultancy rather than a scalable product business.
Best and worst case
A small, specialised market with several credible vendors and strong academic tool availability alongside the commercial ones.
Simulation is only as good as the calibration data behind it, and that data comes from a fab. Without one, models stay generic.
Device modelling and simulation services are a legitimate low-capital business, and Indian academic depth in semiconductor physics is real.
Building a TCAD tool from scratch competes with decades of calibrated physics models. Not sensible.
